Understanding 'Awl (Adjustment) and Radd (Return)
'Awl (Adjustment): When total fixed shares exceed 1 (100% of estate), all shares are
proportionally reduced.
Radd (Return): When total fixed shares are less than 1, the remainder returns
proportionally to eligible heirs (excluding spouse).
Methodology & Sources
This calculator implements the Islamic laws of inheritance (Mirath) as prescribed in the Quran (Surah An-Nisa, Verses 11, 12, and 176) and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
Calculation Logic
- Fixed Shares (Faraid) are distributed first.
- Residue is distributed to 'Asabah (residuary heirs) after fixed shares.
- 'Awl (Proportional Reduction) is applied if shares exceed the estate.
- Radd (Return) is applied if shares are less than the estate (excluding spouse).
